Heather Humphrey

Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Heather Humphrey leads Evergy’s legal and compliance divisions with responsibility for all litigation, regulatory and corporate legal matters as well as compliance and audit functions.

Before joining Evergy, Ms. Humphrey was an equity partner with Shughart Thomson & Kilroy in Kansas City, Mo., where her practice focused primarily on business and employment litigation. While in private practice, Ms. Humphrey spent several years as hiring partner and served on the firm’s Strategic Planning Committee. Prior to joining the law firm, she was a law clerk for the Honorable W. Duane Benton of the Missouri Supreme Court.

Ms. Humphrey serves on the Board of Directors for the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired. She is also on the Nelson Atkins Art Museum Business Council. Ms. Humphrey also served as the chairperson for the Mayor’s Summer Employment Commission and on the boards of Starlight Theatre and Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey.

Ms. Humphrey earned a business degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, her law degree from Washington University School of Law and an MBA from the Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is also a graduate of Dartmouth’s Tuck Executive Program.
