Bassham addresses media reports
Heres a message KCP&L President and CEO Terry Bassham shared with KCP&L employees today regarding recent media reports.
Good afternoon.
I wanted to take a few moments to update you on our proposed acquisition of Westar. In light of recent media coverage the last few days, you may have questions regarding the Missouri Public Service Commission (MPSC) Staffs assertions related to the transaction. If you havent read, the MPSC staff recently filed a report suggesting the MPSC has jurisdiction over the acquisition and news stories have even suggested that if the MPSC got involved, the transaction would fall through.
We strongly disagree with the MPSC Staffs position and dont believe the MPSC has jurisdiction over this transaction, as Westar isnt a utility operating in Missouri. As weve said from the beginning, we expect that the combination of KCP&L and Westar will create significant operational efficiencies and cost savings that will benefit our customers in Kansas and Missouri. We remain on track to complete the transaction in the second quarter of 2017.
I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your hard work the last few months. Weve kicked off integration planning and at the same time kept our focus on operations during a very hot summer. We have a lot of work to do to get ready for day one of the new combined company while running our current business and meeting customers needs.
Terry
